Breaking the Set No. 239 -- 2013 Sep 19 TH

Persecuting Patraeus Protestors, Does CFR Control Global Policy?

On this episode of Breaking the Set, Abby Martin remarks on news that six CUNY students were arrested for protesting former Army General David Patraeus' crossover into academia. Abby then calls out Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, highlighting some of the company's more questionable practices such as data-mining and tracking, and how the company has become another arm of the surveillance state. Abby then talks to Jamal Abdi, policy director at the Iranian-American Council about the anticipated meeting between Obama and Iranian president Hassan Rouhani, as well as the true nature of western sanctions and their aggressively negative effects on the Iranian people. BTS wraps up the show with an interview with Laurence Shoup, historian and author, about the influence of think tanks and policy groups, taking a closer look at the Council on Foreign Relations' role as a behind the scenes global policy prescriber.
