Americans Willing to Sacrifice Liberty for the Promise of Security?

The legendary Scottish poet, Robert Burns, penned a line in 1786 that still lives today: (in the original) "O wad some Pow'r the giftie gie us To see oursels as ithers see us!" It can be translated in modern English as: "And would some Power the Giver give us To see ourselves as others see us!"

This is how the "people" of this country look on Australian television.

Show description from the Infowars.com web site :: On this Sunday, June 30 edition of The Alex Jones Show, Alex speaks with NSA insider and whistleblower Wayne Madsen who recently revealed the United States' collaboration with the entire European Union to censor European newspapers reporting on the illegal NSA spying in an unprecedented manipulation of the press. The Alex Jones Show -- 2013 Jun 28 FR

From the Infowars web site :: On this Friday, June 28 edition of The Alex Jones Show, Alex exposes the joke of gun control after a nanny cam captured the brutal beating of unarmed New Jersey woman.

Authorities have now begun the mass purging of the First Amendment by labeling Americans' sarcastic comments as "terrorist threats." A Texas teenager has been behind bars since March after a Canadian woman phoned police over a crude joke he made in an on-line game.

The cyber-industrial complex is already well on its way in the purging of the Fourth Amendment, labeling the domestic spy grid as "national security."

Gerald Celente, financial forecaster and publisher of The Trends Journal, joins Alex in studio to discuss the implications of this privacy-killing industry, spending over $80 billion a year and employing over 835,000 contractors.

Paul Craig Roberts on the NSA and "Washington’s Sanctimonious Mask"

From PaulCraigRoberts.org.
It is hard to understand the fuss that Washington and its media whores are making over Edward Snowden. We have known for a long time that the National Security Agency (NSA) has been spying for years without warrants on the communications of Americans and people throughout the world. Photographs of the massive NSA building in Utah built for the purpose of storing the intercepted communications of the world have been published many times.

It is not clear to an ordinary person what Snowden has revealed that William Binney and other whistleblowers have not already revealed. Perhaps the difference is that Snowden has provided documents that prove it, thereby negating Washington’s ability to deny the facts with its usual lies.

Whatever the reason for Washington’s blather, it certainly is not doing the US government any good. Far more interesting than Snowden’s revelations is the decision by governments of other countries to protect a truth-teller from the Stasi in Washington.

[....]

China’s state newspaper, The People’s Daily, wrote: “The United States has gone from a model of human rights to an eavesdropper on personal privacy, the manipulator of the centralized power over the international internet, and the mad invader of other countries’ networks. . . The world will remember Edward Snowden. It was his fearlessness that tore off Washington’s sanctimonious mask.”

China’s Global Times, a subsidiary of The People’s Daily, accused Washington of attacking “a young idealist who has exposed the sinister scandals of the US government.” Instead of apologizing “Washington is showing off its muscle by attempting to control the whole situation.”

China’s official Xinhua news agency reported that Snowden’s revelations had placed “Washington in a really awkward situation. They demonstrate that the United States, which has long been trying to play innocent as a victim of cyber attacks, has turned out to be the biggest villain in our age.”

[....]

The stuck pig squeals from the NSA director--”Edward Snowden has caused irreversible damage to US”--are matched by the obliging squeals from members of the House and Senate, themselves victims of the NSA spying, as was the Director of the CIA who was forced to resign because of a love affair. The NSA is in position to blackmail everyone in the House and Senate, in the White House itself, in all the corporations, the universities, the media, every organization at home and abroad, who has anything to hide. You can tell who is being blackmailed by the intensity of the squeals, such as those of Dianne Feinstein (D, CA) and Mike Rogers (R, MI). With any luck, a patriot will leak what the NSA has on Feinstein and Rogers, neither of whom could possibly scrape any lower before the NSA.

The gangster government in Washington that has everything to hide is now in NSA’s hands and will follow orders. The pretense that amerika is a democracy responsible to the people has been exposed. The US is run by and for the NSA. Congress and the White House are NSA puppets.

Let’s quit calling the NSA the National Security Agency. Clearly, NSA is a threat to the security of every person in the entire world. Let’s call the NSA what it really is--the National Stasi Agency, the largest collection of Gestapo in human history. You can take for granted that every media whore, every government prostitute, every ignorant flag-waver who declares Snowden to be a traitor is either brainwashed or blackmailed. They are the protectors of NSA tyranny. They are our enemies. [emphasis mine]

Creepy Facebook is Creepy

Via TechCrunch.com.
The latest Facebook data breach – which exposed personal contact information that Facebook had harvested on 6 million of its users – is a reminder that even if you’re not handing over all your contact data to Facebook, it is obtaining and triangulating that data anyway. And even if you’re not on Facebook yourself, your contact data likely is because the social network is building a shadow profile of you by data-mining other people.
You might never join Facebook, but a zombie you — sewn together from scattered bits of your personal data — is still sitting there in sort-of-stasis on its servers waiting to be properly animated if you do sign up for the service. Or waiting to escape through the cracks of another security flaw in Facebook’s systems. [emphasis mine]
Facebook is a crowd-fueled, data-mining machine that’s now so massive (1.11 billion monthly active users as of March 2013) that it doesn’t matter if you haven’t ever signed up yourself to sign over your personal data. It has long since passed the tipping point where it can act as a distributed data network that knows something about almost everyone. Or everyone who leaves any kind of digital/cellular trace that can be fed into its data banks
Chances are someone you have corresponded with — by email or mobile phone — has let Facebook’s data spiders crawl through their correspondence, thereby allowing your contact data to be assimilated entirely without your knowledge or consent. One such example was flagged to TechCrunch on Saturday when one of the users was informed by Facebook they had been affected by its latest breach found it had harvested an email address they had never personally handed over.
This behaviour casts Facebook as the Borg of the digital world: resistance is futile. It also underlines exactly why the NSA wants a backdoor into this type of digital treasure trove. If you’re going to outsource low-level surveillance of everyone, then Facebook is one of a handful of tech companies large enough to have files on almost everyone. So really, forget the futuristic Borg: this ceaseless data-harvesting brings to mind the dossier-gathering attention to detail of the Stasi.

The Alex Jones Show -- 2013 Jun 25 TU

From the Infowars web site :: On this Tuesday, June 25 transmission of The Alex Jones Show, Alex tears through a towering stack of news on both the domestic front and worldwide. Sen. Rand Paul disapproves of the immigration reform bill and believes the House will kill it. Also, the world governments collide in confrontation over Edward Snowden, whose current whereabouts are unknown. The U.S. demands extradition for the NSA spy gate whistleblower but finds little international support.

Alex considers new evidence in the vehicle death of Michael Hastings which may indicate that his car's electronics were controlled remotely. Alex hosts Sheriff Richard Mack in studio, a former Arizona sheriff, author, and successful Bill of Rights activist. Mack is renowned for his Supreme Court victory against gun control. Mack is the author of The Magic of Gun Control.

In addition, Coast to Coast AM radio host George Noory calls into the show.

Establishment Lapdog Media vs. Edward Snowden (video)

In their coverage of the Snowden affair in particular, the mainstream media has traded a role as government watchdog for one as government's lapdog. The Young Turks' Cenk Uygur calls them out (brace yourself, Bob Schieffer) and breaks it down. Caveat: there's some "adult" language in this.

U.S. Government Reduced to Thowing a Tantrum Over Snowden

In an excellent article on the web site of the Ron Paul Institute of Peace and Prosperity, titled "Why Is No One Listening to the US Government?" Daniel McAdams observes:
The US government is in panic mode over the apparently successful escape of NSA leaker Ed Snowden from Hong Kong. US government officials are swinging wildly at any target in sight while howling at the disintegrating illusion of US omnipotence. The rest of the world will not do what they demand. They will not hand over Edward Snowden. The injustice!

White House Spokesman Jay Carney screams at China: "We are just not buying that this was a technical decision by a Hong Kong immigration official. This was a deliberate choice by the government to release a fugitive despite a valid arrest warrant, and that decision unquestionably has a negative impact on the U.S.-China relationship."

Secretary of State John Kerry warned Russia that “[t]here would be without any question some effect and impact on the relationship and consequences."

House Homeland Security Committee Chairman Peter King fumed: "We can’t allow Russia to do this without diplomatic consequences. The opportunity will come over the next several months or year, when Russia will need us with something involving trade involving diplomacy, involving finance, where the U.S. will basically say no, and we will make it difficult for Putin. He should know now not to expect any favors."

Senator Lindsey Graham squealed: “If they [Russia] want to be part of the world community, the W.T.O., they want a good relationship with the United States, they should hold this fellow and send him back home for justice.”

The Keiser Report No. 462, "No Fairness, Let Us Cheat!" -- 2013 Jun 25 TU

The demands for the right to cheat reminds Max of Thomas Jefferson who said, "The right to life, liberty and the pursuit of cheating." In the second half, Max talks to Simon Rose of SaveOurSavers.co.uk about Mark Carney's imminent arrival at the Bank of England, the idea that capitalists should hold protests demanding that capitalism be tried and the coming Bondpocalypse and the lying, cheating Anglo Irish bankers caught on tape.

The plan is suggested in order to make the debt more attractive to private investors. In the second half, Max talks to independent journalist, Luke Rudkowski, about fake shopfronts in Belfast meant to disguise the true state of the economy and about the few protesters demanding communism and socialism when that's part of the reason our financial and economic systems have collapsed.

The Alex Jones Show -- 2013 Jun 12 WE

From the Infowars web site :: On the Wednesday, June 12 transmission of The Alex Jones Show, Alex continues to break down the NSA spy grid scandal shoved into the mainstream spotlight by a 29-year-old NSA contractor now taking refuge in Hong Kong, from which he plans to disclose more details on U.S. surveillance targets.

Alex examines the massive criminality and brazenness of those actively working to deconstruct the Constitution, who at the same time attempt to convince us that, in order to preserve liberty, more security is necessary.

On today's show, we'll listen to former Congressman Ron Paul's defense of NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden, who is surprisingly being labeled a 'traitor' by members of the Republican party.

We also welcome journalist and author Wayne Madsen to give his take on the giant whirlwind of scandals.

Is Snowden a Hero? Journalist Chris Hedges and Legal Scholar Geoffrey Stone Debate

From Democracy Now.
Edward Snowden’s decision to leak a trove of secret documents outlining the NSA’s surveillance program has elicited a range of reactions. Among his detractors, he’s been called "a grandiose narcissist who deserves to be in prison," (Jeffrey Toobin of The New Yorker), who’s committed "an act of treason," (Democratic Senator Dianne Feinstein, chair of the Senate Intelligence Committee). To supporters, Snowden is a hero for showing that "our very humanity [is] being compromised by the blind implementation of machines in the name of making us safe," (author Douglas Rushkoff), one whom President Obama should "thank and offer him a job as a White House technology advisor," (American Conservative editor Scott McConnell). We host a debate with two guests: Chris Hedges, a senior fellow at The Nation Institute and former Pulitzer Prize-winning foreign correspondent for The New York Times, and Geoffrey Stone, a professor at the University of Chicago Law School. Stone served as an informal adviser to President Obama in 2008, years after hiring him to teach constitutional law.

Jon Rappoport on the Snowden Story

Jon Rappoport has had his thinking cap on. The frequent Infowars contributor and career newsguy has written a couple of articles on his blog that approach the Edward Snowden story in ways that I've not seen elsewhere. I originally thought to post excerpts here, but I couldn't figure out how to cut out pieces that would do justice to the articles. So, here are the links. I hope you'll go read them.

Attorney General Secretly Granted Government Ability to Develop and Store Dossiers on Innocent Americans

I either completely missed this story from six months ago, or my memory is getting worse that I have realized. From Wired.com:
In a secret government agreement granted without approval or debate from lawmakers, the U.S. attorney general recently gave the National Counterterrorism Center sweeping new powers to store dossiers on U.S. citizens, even if they are not suspected of a crime, according to a news report.

Earlier this year, Attorney General Eric Holder granted the center the ability to copy entire government databases holding information on flight records, casino-employee lists, the names of Americans hosting foreign-exchange students and other data, and to store it for up to five years, even without suspicion that someone in the database has committed a crime, according to the Wall Street Journal, which broke the story.

NSA Whistleblower Witch-hunt, Bilderberg 2013 Debriefed, Nestlé Water Takeover

On this episode of Breaking the Set, Abby Martin talks to Brad Friedman, writer and editor of 'The Brad Blog', about the largest leak in NSA's history, and what lays ahead for whistleblower Edward Snowden. Abby then takes an in-depth look at the Nestlé corporation; its business practice of bloating the price of water, while pursuing the privatization of this common resource against the public good. BTS wraps up the show with an interview with filmmaker and activist, Jason Bermas, about what was learned from the latest Bilderberg summit in the UK, the growing media presence outside of the event, and the rise in critical voices speaking out against the secret convention of world power-players.

The Scott Horton Show -- 2013 Jun 11

I had intended to edit and post today's Scott Horton Show, but the audio file has not yet appeared in the archive. It was a good show and I was able to listen to most of it. Scott's guests were computer security guru Bruce Schneier plus Mark Skousen (Austrian School economist, investment analyst, newsletter editor, college professor and author).

Hopefully I can get this done tomorrow, and hopefully not at the expense of getting to work on Wednesday's show.

Righteous Indignation, Cenk Uygur (video)

I'm not a regular viewer of The Young Turks, nor particularly a fan of Cenk. But this particular tirade has a feel-good quality for me. It's old-fashioned, loudly speaking the truth in no uncertain terms.

After a day of reading about how the sheep are sleeping through all the breaking NSA stories, I needed to hear this. [The last minute or so is the best part.]

The Keiser Report No. 456, "Copyright Prostitutes" -- 2013 Jun 11 TU

This time Max and Stacy ask, "What is Boundless Informant, PRISM, Trans-Pacific Partnership, SOPA, PIPA and ACTA if not copyright prostitutes colluding and beating up the competition? Max also informs President Barack Obama that a food stamp is NOT a job. In the second half, Max talks to artist, Mark McGowan (aka The Artist Taxi Driver), about his pushing the pig to Downing Street as an artistic response to the privatisation of the National Health Service in the United Kingdom. They also discuss McGowan's crowd-funded film currently in production, This is Not a Recession, It's a Robbery!

The Alex Jones Show -- 2013 Jun 11 TU

From the Infowars web site :: On this Tuesday, June 11 edition of The Alex Jones Show, Alex runs down last week's Bilderberg protest in Watford, England, and his appearance on BBC One.

Jones also covers the NSA surveillance grid now out in the open and the revelations of Booz Allen analyst Edward Snowden, who released damning information on the agency's effort to capture the private data of millions of Americans in blatant violation of the Fourth Amendment.

Alex also covers the latest breaking news as the globalists move on all fronts to consolidate their power and usher in their ultimate plan for world government and an Orwellian surveillance and control grid.

The Most Depressing Article in a While

Maybe "outrage fatigue" setting in. I hope not. It is becoming clear, however, that I am in a minority when I am not happy with the daily atrocities inflicted by the kakistocracy that is the U.S. federal government. The majority, the sheep enjoy their enslavement and are comfortable in their chains.

ZeroHedge.com looks at the most recent data from the Pew Research Center and concludes:
In what is likely the most disappointing, if not unexpected, news of the day, we find that according to a just released Pew Research study, a substantial majority, or 56% of Americans, "say the National Security Agency’s (NSA) program tracking the telephone records of millions of Americans is an acceptable way for the government to investigate terrorism." Only 41% object to having every phone conversation intercepted, investigated, analyzed, and recorded for posterity. Sorry Edward Snowden: you just threw your life away for nothing. The sheep have been properly and thoroughly conditioned and brainwashed, which is why they continue to get precisely the government they so rightfully deserve.

Why We Get the Police State We Deserve

In the first flush of stories about how the National Security Agency is surveilling American citizens, one stomach-turning revelation hasn’t gotten the attention it deserves: We get the surveillance state we deserve because rank political partisanship trumps bedrock principle every goddamn time on just about every goddamn issue.

The journalist Glenn Greenwald, who jump-started this overdue conversation on civil liberties and the war on terrorism, has promised that the revelations are just getting started. But nothing that comes out can be more dispiriting than the simple truth that Democrats and Republicans are both happy to love Big Brother as long as he’s got the right party affiliation.

The Demonization Machine Cranks Up Against Edward Snowden

Matt Welch, in the Hit & Run blog at Reason.com clearly has a strong stomach. He has gathered a sampling of the rabid attacks being thrown at Snowden by an assortment of Obamabots, NSA-lovers and police-statists.

I cannot bear to quote more than a couple here. Read the entire collection here.

Marc Thiessen, Washington Post columnist, American Enterprise Institute fellow, former speech writer for president George W. Bush and defense secretary Donald Rumsfeld, former senior aide to senator Jesse Helms, author of Courting Disaster: How the CIA Kept America Safe....
Turns out Edward Snowden — the former CIA employee and NSA contractor who leaked documents revealing top-secret National Security Agency programs tracking terrorist communications — is a Paulbot. [...]

The revelation is of particular interest because one of the harshest critics of the NSA since the leaks began has been… Senator Rand Paul. Taken in isolation, the fact that Snowden supported the elder Paul's presidential bid should not necessarily tar the senator. Politicians can't be held responsible for all the actions of their supporters. But in addition to his campaign contributions, Snowden's comments explaining his reasons for leaking are virtually indistinguishable from Senator Paul's criticisms of the NSA program.
