Israel suffered a humiliating defeat at The UN yesterday. The nations of the world stood up and said NO to the Jewish state - NO to Israeli occupation, NO to Israeli human rights abuse, NO to Jewish racism. In effect, they stood up and confessed to serious Zio-fatigue.

Despite Jewish success in constantly reminding Europeans of their tormented past, Europe yesterday delivered itself of its guilt and Israel's European allies such as Germany, France, Britain and Italy also delivered a clear messages to Israel - they are right out of patience. This is a very good news indeed.

But interestingly, this united opposition to Israel is not in response the Israeli strength. On the contrary, it is actually a reaction to Israeli weakness.




Vatican hails UN Palestine vote

The Vatican hailed the United Nations' implicit recognition of a Palestinian state on Thursday and called for an internationally guaranteed special status for Jerusalem, something bound to irritate Israel.

The 193-nation UN General Assembly overwhelmingly approved a resolution to upgrade the Palestinian Authority's observer status at the United Nations from "entity" to "non-member state," the same status as the Vatican.

"The Holy See welcomes with favour the decision of the General Assembly by which Palestine has become a Non-member Observer State of the United Nations," a statement said.

srael's leaders competed with each other Thursday over who will utter the most disparaging remark about the Palestinian move in the United Nations. Never have so many press releases been issued over an event that they themselves characterized as meaningless.

Deputy Foreign Minister Danny Ayalon outdid his peers. "This day is the day of the historic rout of the Palestinians," Ayalon declared in tones reminiscent of Iraq's propaganda minister's boasting victory over the Americans as tanks poured through the streets of Bagdad.
Canada recalling diplomats from Israel, West Bank and UN

A day after the United Nations voted to recognize Palestinian statehood, Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird is temporarily recalling Canada's senior diplomats from Israel, the West Bank and the UN missions in New York and Geneva.

He says they will be brought home to assess the implications of Thursday's UN General Assembly vote, which recognized the Palestinians as a non-member, observer state at the world body.

Canada strongly opposed the decision.
