Blog Misc -- 2013 Apr 03 WE

The day after my coronary bypass surgery, I was informed that I have diabetes and was put on a regimen of two different types of insulin, a total of five injections each day. Time passed and eventually I could no longer afford the insulin. I suspect that if I had continue to take it, some of the complications I've developed might be less severe, but who knows. One of the things that is now part of my everyday life is diabetic peripheral neuropathy. Most of the time this manifests in a variety of types of pain (burning, piercing, electric-shock, etc.) in my lower legs, ankles, feet and toes. It's bad.

This afternoon/evening it is manifesting in my hands and fingers. Imagine a car door slamming on your hands every 5-10 minutes. These kinds of symptoms are typically worse at night, so I don't expect it to go away soon (hopefully by tomorrow). Thankfully it's not in my hands like this often, but right now it is making using keyboard and mouse difficult (it has taken about 20 minutes so far to write this post). I'll do as much of my usual Wednesday work as I can. That's as much as I can promise. Sorry.

Hi,
I am very sorry to hear about your conditions. I wish you the very best.
I am eternally gratefully for your dedication every day. if you can't upload anything today and/or tomorrow, it's alright and not the end of the world.

Sorry to hear about the bad health man,I've had type 1 diabetes for close to 20yrs now.I went years without help or insurance, leading to serious complications.at 31 yrs of age it depressing to say the least.what types of insulin do you take?the reason I ask is I can't stand seeing people go without & I can hook you up w surplus insulin I have,I have one type that I switched from & doesn't expire for atleast a year & another type that have 3-4 months left.either way injecting the amount you do it won't expire by the time you finish it.if you are interested just put up a post saying you are & I'll Email you my info so I can get that out to you.

ALSO.....
Attention to all diabetics out there that have surplus testing supplies, near or far from expiration......HELP!! Money if you have extra can help him too.believe me diabetes is suffering & it takes a lot of strong will & support to survive!

Thanks for the good words, all. As for the question about what kind of insulin I was using, there was one faster acting kind that I think was Novolog or Humalog and also a longer lasting type that I believe was Lantus. I honestly can't say for certain because it has been so long. I have been off insulin for over 4 years and hey, I am not dead yet!
