Lavabit Bites the Dust

Lavabit.com was one of a handful of more-secure, pro-privacy email services that I have trying out in the past few weeks. It's a Texas based firm and was a favorite of Edward Snowden in the past. The site was down yesterday, ostensibly for "system maintenance." Today the site consists of this single static page:

In the words of Lavabit's CEO, I would _strongly_ recommend against anyone trusting their private data to a company with physical ties to the United States.
