The legendary Scottish poet, Robert Burns, penned a line in 1786 that still lives today: (in the original) "O wad some Pow'r the giftie gie us To see oursels as ithers see us!" It can be translated in modern English as: "And would some Power the Giver give us To see ourselves as others see us!"
