That's Asda price-y: Supermarket sorry after credit card customers are encouraged to withdraw Christmas cash

Supermarket giant Asda has apologised after its credit card customers were told to pay for a 'magical' Christmas by withdrawing money from a cash machine - failing to fully explain the exorbitant cost involved.

A flyer in the form of a Christmas card was sent out to customers of its banking arm, Asda Money, saying: 'Visit your local ATM for extra cash this Christmas...why not use the cash facility on your Asda Money Credit Card. You can withdraw up to £300 a day.'

But withdrawing money from a cash machine is one of the most expensive things you can do with your credit card, with Asda charging its customers 3 per cent of the amount taken, or £5, whichever is greater.

Taking the maximum daily amount mentioned in the flyer therefore would incur a £9 charge.

Turkey: Israel 'Playing With Fire' in Jerusalem, E1 Building

Turkish President Abdullah Gül said that Israel was "playing with fire" with its plans to build in Jerusalem and the E1 area. "Israel's actions will just hurt her in the mid- and long-term, its isolation will grow, and its allies will be placed in a difficult position," Gül was quoted by Turkish media as saying.

Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, Gül said that Israel "needed to learn a lesson" from the UN General Assembly's upgrading of the Palestinian Authority to a non-member observer state several weeks ago. "This should show Israel how isolated its settlement policy has made it," he said. Palestinian Authority chief Mahmoud Abbas has already said that the PA was considering complaining to the International Criminal Court in the Hague about Israel's construction in Jerusalem and areas of Judea and Samaria liberated in the 1967 Six Day War.

Israeli FM Vows Full Occupation of Gaza for Any Future Rocket Firing

Speaking at the Yisraeli Beiteinu Hanukkah event today, Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman vowed a full-scale invasion and occupation of the Gaza Strip in the event of any rocket fire coming out of the strip in the future.

"Any rocket attack mandates a wide-scale ground invasion of Gaza... Such an operation shouldn't be restricted by any means, it should see (the IDF) take full control of Gaza," Lieberman said.

The comments are unlikely to be an expression of actual policy so much as political bluster ahead of the election, as Lieberman went on to rail at opposition figures who he insisted were "siding against Israel" on the question of more wars against the Palestinians, singling out virtually every leader on the left and in the center.
