Radio Feuds

There have been some inquiries into an alleged Jones vs. Rivero feud, as well as conflicts that have arisen between Alex Jones and other alt/talk radio hosts in the not too distant past.

Other than the announcement posted on Mike Rivero's website and the terse comments from John Stadtmiller on his show Tuesday, there is little available about what's going on with Mike beyond the speculations and suspicions of fans.

There was and is little that I know definitively about any of these affairs. Most of what has been written and said on-air by the primary parties involved could potentially be dismissed as self-serving mendaciousness. Commentary by parties once or more removed might be dismissed at best as hearsay, at worst willful fiction meant to support "their horse in the race."

I have devoted some time in the past two days to an attempt to gather some information that might be worth posting and I have not yet found much.

I did come across what appears to the the text of an email written by Jeff Rense to a fan, detailing some of skirmishes with Alex Jones. It was posted to TheDailyPaul, a discussion forum for Ron Paul fans and the like. The URL is http://www.dailypaul.com/node/88061, but is unfortunately unreachable now, as I write this. Google's webcache, however, has available this version of the page.

The Rense vs. Jones feud seems ideologically based, with [as is alleged with Jones and Rivero] Rense being assertively anti-Zionist, and viewing Jones as an apologist ["shill"] for the Zionists.

Jack Blood is an Austin, Texas-based radio host who some years ago was a close associate of Alex Jones, even to the point of occasionally guest-hosting for him. On February 24th of this year on his own show, Deadline Live, Jack spent the bulk of two hours detailing his rocky relationship with Alex Jones. I was a regular listener of his show at that time and heard it all the day it aired. It was visceral stuff.

Jack has very recently moved from American Freedom Radio to Rense Radio. I think it's safe to say that Jack's feud with Alex had more to do with personalities than with ideology, but not exclusively so.

That's really all I have toward which to point you at this time. If anyone knows of material available related to these conflicts that is not all heat and no light, please let us hear from you.

Rivero is Moving

Mike Rivero, host of the What Really Happened radio show, will soon be moving.  No, not from Hawaii, rather from one radio network to another.  I discovered this near the top of his web site a few hours ago:

As of the end of August I will be leaving GCN to do my show over at Republic Broadcasting. My first day at Republic will be Monday August 23rd, followed by a week of doing both shows, with my last day at GCN Friday August 27th. The Saturday show is still up in the air at this time.


My show will air earlier in the day on Republic, running from 2PM to 4PM Central Time. As usual, podcasts will be available.

If he has made any mention of this change on his broadcasts it has slipped by me. I did, however, hear an annoucement on RBN a couple of hours ago as I was listening to Tuesday's National Intel Report, hosted by RBN founder John Stadtmiller. John's guests every Tuesday are Bob Chapman [International Forecaster newsletter] and Robby Noel [hosts an RBN show called The Flip Side].

Just a couple of minutes into the show, Stadtmiller stated:

JS: Mike Rivero of WhatReallyHappened.com is coming on board the [Republic Broadcasting] Network starting next month.

BC: That is wonderful!

JS: Yeah, very pleased to have that happen. It was under extraordinary circumstances that he was forced to make that move and I won't give any other details 'cause quite frankly it's pretty ugly and who gives a damn.

I'm reasonably sure more info will be out about this in coming days, hopefully actual facts rather than the gossip that has already begun. [The rumor mill so far is saying it was a hatchet job by Alex Jones.] I will share more as I know more.

Right now the aspect of this that's occupying my mind is a bit of a worry about audio quality for the new show. GCN podcast files were 64K bitrate. I have yet to see an RBN podcast file that is anything but 32K bitrate. Also, it's been my experience that "listening live" at RBN is not as easily done as it is at GCN. But I absolutely wish Mike all the best!

A few quick notes :: Brit torrent, thanks for catching the commenting problem on the other blog. Evidently Blogger's default configuration is to allow comments by "registered users" only. Today's Jones show began with a brief live interview with Gov. Jesse Ventura. This caused me to think: O.K., perhaps I should leave the trend forecasting to Gerald Celente. Based on what Alex said at the end of Wednesday's broadcast and the fact that yesterday's program was all rerun material, I had more or less predicted that today's show would be a recycling experience as well. But Ventura was live, as was the rest of that first hour.

The rest of today's program, however, consists of material from the July 14th show [the first 3 hours], featuring Richard Reeves, the host of "Frontline Texas," and Larry Pratt, the executive director of Gun Owners of America.

Mini-Housekeeping - 2010 July 22 TH

Not a lot of things to cover, but why let them pile up, eh?

The Pirate Bay is still alive. Uploading there is possibly easier and faster than it has ever been, easier and faster than in recent memory for me certainly. My only problem is not being able to edit a torrent description once it's uploaded. They've always had that feature available, so I'm going to keep thinking this is a temporary problem. I checked through the latest few dozen posts on the Site Status thread in the support forum and the staff seems to be in a better mood these days [finally]. The most recent semi-official message said:

We are up a major maintenace. Things will get back to normal as soon we are done with all updates.So just be patient and thanks for all reports/observations guys.

I have member access to PrisonPlanet.tv once again, for which I'm sincerely thankful [you know who you are!]. I should be able to handle whatever overDrive curveballs that Alex cares to throw without worrying about my blood pressure now.

I wanted to give greetings to the blog's two most recent public followers: zapoper and Cam. From what SL tells me, zapoper is a legendary figure at ConCen, and we are glad he decided to join us here. Cam is a "web guy," with whom I hope to be having some conversations in the near future regarding a new project that's been bouncing around in my head.

And, speaking of a new project, if you have a minute or two of free time, ratchet your expectations down to low and take a look at this. Any comments will be appreciated [or at least tolerated]. Right now it's only at the "proof of concept" stage, if I'm using that terminology accurately.

Tomorrow is TGIF [toes go in first] and the weekend is almost within sight. It appears we have almost made it through another one!

Dutch ISPs Don’t Have to Censor The Pirate Bay

A Dutch court has ruled that two of the largest ISPs in the Netherlands don’t have block customer access to The Pirate Bay. According to the court, there is no evidence that the majority of the ISPs’ users are infringing copyright through The Pirate Bay, so a block would not be justified.

An FYI: Today on the Jones show Alex is doing an "OverDrive" segment for the first time since switching to a [primarily] three-hours-per-weekday format.

I should be able to record this live from the stream, but non-PrisonPlanet.tv members only have access to a 32K bitrate stream. Therefore, the .mp3 file for the overDrive segment will be lower quality than the other 64K bitrate podcast source files. Hopefully, within just a few days this will not be an issue.

Update: The 4th hour today turned out to be only slightly more than a half hour with commercials --23 minutes, edited.

Max Keiser [always fun] was with Alex today for hour 3 and the overDrive segment.  Much of the show today was devoted to the attempts by Google/YouTube to censor The Obama Deception and some other Jones documentaries.  Alex also speaks with the owner of the YouTube "director's channel" where most of the activity has centered.

The source of this is, frankly, one I know nothing about. The link I followed to get there, though, came from the official Twitter feed for TPB, so I'm thinking it can be regarded as credible.

Certainly, the obituary for The Pirate Bay has been prematurely written multiple times. This news doesn't represent the last nail in the coffin, but it might be one of the nails.

Pirate Bay May Close, but Pirates Bay Opens

The Pirate Bay - On Friday, a Dutch appeals court upheld a previous injunction against the BitTorrent tracker [indexer, actually]. The courts had previously held the three original administrators accountable for the operation of the site, despite testimony that a new company, Reservella, is now at the helm. If the site remains available, Fredrik Neij, Peter Sunde and Per Kolmisoppi Gottfrid may be fined 50,000 Euros per day.

It should be noted that both these judgments were issued by default because the three defendants were not at either of the proceedings. If the three original administrators didn't show up, and no longer claim responsibility for the site, what can we expect to happen next?

It seems that BREIN knows that a court order is not going to deter The Pirate Bay or block it from the Netherlands. Instead, they're attacking the ISPs Ziggo and XS4All - which apparently routes incoming traffic to Dutch users. Efforts to have ISPs block The Pirate Bay were successful in Denmark and Italy, but these legal efforts do little to stem demand. With the thirst for The Pirate Bay still in full force, numerous countermeasures have been deployed by users to work around these blocks - including the simple act of going to a different site. In all, these measures seem to do little, if anything, to reduce BitTorrent's popularity - except maybe increase it.

While The Pirate Bay gets a taste of mortality in the Netherlands, some could take solace with the opening of the new Pirates Bay - The Pirates Bay water park in Baytown, Texas, that is.

Housekeeping - 2010 July 18 SU

O.K., technically it is Monday, the 19th, but only by about an hour.

There is no particular planned organization for this post. It's purpose is to just catch up on some things that I wanted to talk about during the past week, but did not find time to do so.

First I am going to look back through the past week's comments.

I want to thank everyone who contributed to the discussion about a potential trojan threat coming via torrage. I have never had to deal with an issue like that related to any torrent I have uploaded, but I wanted to meet this head-on. Based on what I've heard from everyone, including "the trojan guy" who originally reported it, I think it is safe to conclude that what he saw was a one-time anomoly and that using either of the torrage services can be generally regarded as safe for any torrents you'll see here.

Regarding the Prison Planet membership, I think that will soon be taken care of. I have worked out an arrangement with a key supporter of this blog -- who chooses not to be named -- such that by the end of this week I should once again have registered member access at PrisonPlanet.tv. Obviously I am especially grateful to that person, but I am thankful as well for all who offered assistance and suggestions of any and every kind.

"Lyn from the UK police-state" asked if I was joining the Prison Planet Forum. To be honest, I had never thought much about doing that. In general I try to stay away from political forums as they seem to harbor much more pettiness and melodrama than rational discourse. But I decided that since I really don't have enough free time to get involved in heated debates there, I might be able to stay out of trouble. Plus, I'm thinking it might prove useful for the sharing of information, so yes, I did sign up a couple of days ago. Lyn, you asked about my avatar. I'll use the same thing there that use everywhere:

This seems to be basic stuff, things any indexer should be able to get right.

As just an F.Y.I. -- a couple of weeks ago I emailed the host of Guns and Butter, Bonnie Faulkner, partially in response to the urging of a commenter here. I told her that I enjoyed the show -- the guest line-up and her interviewing style. I also asked a few questions about how guests were selected, and about her familiarity with other "alternative" talk radio shows. I ended with an invitation to visit this blog to see how we are distributing her broadcasts, and telling her that I would be happy to answer questions about bit torrent generally or my work in specific.

I will check into this to the best of my ability. If you have had a similar experience with a torrage link [or if you've used one of them today without a problem] please share your experience. For now, I feel that I should recommend using torrage links with caution until more is known.

I am reasonably sure that there is not a potential for an issue such as this with the magnet link, so if you regularly use torrage links perhaps you could switch to that for the time being. I know that magnet links work with μTorrent but I don't have personal experience with other clients. Wikipedia, however, says:

Applications supporting magnet links include Vuze, BearShare, DC++, Deluge, gtk-gnutella, Kazaa, LimeWire, FrostWire, MP3 Rocket, Morpheus, Qbittorrent (as of v1.5.0), BitComet (as of v1.17), BitSpirit, Shareaza, MLdonkey, aMule, KCeasy, TrustyFiles, μTorrent, Transmission (as of v1.80), and KTorrent (as of v4.0beta1).

Alex Jones Show Update

After making no mention of the time-format change on the day it was initiated (yesterday), Alex discussed it in some detail early in hour one of today's show. Here's an excerpt:

...[F]or the first fourteen years of the broadcast or so I did three hours a day and then about two and a half years ago I went to four hours a day.

But because I have completed my new TV studio -- well I've completed the building and much of the studio -- I'm preparing to start developing that and I just don't have the time and energy to make films, do the TV show, and do four hours.

But we are rebroadcasting the first hour and the fourth hour for the stations that are carrying it.

And I will at least once a week in the future be doing the fourth hour live. And sometimes I'll do the entire week in the fourth hour live.

It's just that we are now starting to migrate over a little bit with our time and energy toward the television end of things.

I've found that doing a fourth hour takes me about thirty minutes to an hour just to recuperate mentally and get some sugars back in my brain.

I mean, I feel great after the show, I just am psychologically and mentally and spiritually exhausted and I then I have to kind of go sit on a couch for about thirty minutes to even get my bearings.

And there's so much going on, so much happening that I've got to hit at the end of the show. I've got to hit things moving into meetings and youtube videos and PrisonPlanet.tv videos and the new chemtrails/eugenics film and other radio interviews I'm doing, that we broke down the analysis and I made the decision to do that.

But we will be doing the fourth hour on a routine basis for folks, that will just be OVERDRIVE....

The emphasis above is mine, and I emphasize it because it appears that these changes will directly affect how I am able to process the Jones Show material for bit torrent distribution.

In order to do all the shows that I do, I have to rely most of the time on podcast files made available either by the shows themselves or by the networks that carry them. In the case of the Jones Show, I use 64K bitrate podcast files that are made available by the GCN radio network -- one file per hour.

The only problem with that system is that they do not make podcast files available for "OverDrive" segments.  [Or at least have not in the past.]  One must either record that as it streams, or get it later via a subscription to PrisonPlanet.tv [where they make available the video in two different file formats, as well as high-quality audio].

Unfortunately I am not always able to be at my computer at the proper time to start recording an OverDrive segment. All I can promise is that I will do my best to continue to deliver whole shows.

Torrents - 2010 July 12

So far this has not been the best of days in Sebaygoland. I'll only go into detail about the torrent-related part, though.

Today is the day Alex changes from a 4 hour format to a 3 hour format for his weekday broadcasts. He announced this [as I reported here] with little fanfare on-air July the 1st, he needed the extra time and energy for working on his current film [re: chemtrails]. He did not say if then or since whether this was to be a permanent change.

To the best of my recollection, he has not mentioned this on his show since the announce on the 1st, and I have seen nothing about it on the Infowars web site. Frankly, for me it had become "out of sight, out of mind."

I checked his RSS feed a few minutes after his old 3:00 Central Time show finish point, and there found a podcast file uploaded, using their standard naming convention for the FOURTH hour. But when I opened the file to begin editing, it was immediately obvious that this was not a 4th hour, but a duplicate of the 1st hour. So it would seem that Alex's tech people were a bit confused.

It seemed also that even Alex himself was a little confused by the change. At the end of the final [3rd] hour, he said:

"Coming up in the next hour I'm going to get into all the military take-over drills, Marines on the streets of L.A. This is mainstream news, MSNBC. That's coming up in the next hour."

That confused me a bit too, so I checked on the Prison Planet Forum and found an "official" posting there stating:

"Alex Goes Back to 3 Hour Weekday Shows Starting July 12, 2010 -- But ALL 3 hours will be televised live at www.PrisonPlanet.tv."

So, finally, after spending altogether too much time chasing in circles, I do have the torrent about ready to upload. The bottom line is that I will begin uploading it a little more than an hour later than I normally have done, which means that it will be a little more than TWO hours later than it really needed to be.

My apologies for my role in this.

Since things are changing somewhat re the Jones show, perhaps this is as good a time as any to disclose something related to both that show and me.

Back when I first began my uploading work -- then only the Jones show and only at Demonoid -- I was contacted by a generous individual who offered to share his Prison Planet membership with me, to make it a bit easier [at times, at least] to do the job I had undertaken. As you probably know, as many as 5 [or is it 6?] people can be simultaneously logged-in on a single userID/password at PrisonPlanet.tv. I was grateful for the offer and took pains to not abuse his generosity.

I enjoyed that privilege until a little over a month ago, when my benefactor allowed his membership to lapse. Since that time I don't think I have allowed the quality or quantity of my work on the Jones material to suffer, but I must admit that it does make it a little harder for me.

So, I make this appeal. If you are a reader of this blog, a user of the torrents I create and upload, and you have a PrisonPlanet membership that you have not already shared with the maximum number of people, and would be willing to allow me to share your access, I would be sincerely grateful. I would be happy to make recognition of your generosity here and/or in the Jones torrent descriptions, should you want that sort of public acknowledgment. I know that the US$5 per month fee sounds like a small amount, sounds like something I should be able to do for myself. I hope at some point in the not too distant future to do just that. Currently, however, my situation is such that I cannot in good conscience make that commitment. It's embarrassing to admit that, but... it is what it is.
