Breaking the Set No. 276 -- 2013 Nov 13 WE

Hacking Google's Cyber Tattoo, Weaponizing Anthropology, Unnatural Monogamy

On this episode of Breaking the Set, Abby Martin calls attention to a new Google patent for a digital neck tattoo, citing the benefits of the device but warning about the potential dark side of the technology. Abby then remarks on a recent ACLU report highlighting the shockingly high number of people serving life sentences without parole for non-violent crime, calling out state laws that leave judges without options when setting these mandatory sentences. Abby then speaks with David Price, author of Weaponizing Anthropology, about the US government's exploitation of social sciences in foreign policy and nation building, exacerbated in a post-911 world. BTS then takes a look at a shocking statistic that puts opium production in Afghanistan at a record high, and puts into perspective the different corporate interests that could be keeping US forces in Afghanistan well beyond 2014. BTS wraps up the show with an interview with Christopher Ryan, psychologist and author of the best-selling book Sex at Dawn about the human construct of monogamy, western taboos about promiscuity and other intricacies of modern sexuality.
